Abstract

Malaria is an infectious disease caused by parasitic protozoa belonging to the genus Plasmodium which is transmitted through the bite of a female Anopheles mosquito. Knowledge is the result of "knowing" that occurs after people sense a certain object through the five human senses, namely the senses of sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch. Attitudes are views or feelings accompanied by a tendency to act according to certain objects. This study was conducted with the aim of knowing the knowledge and attitudes of housewives about malaria in Arso Barat District, Keerom Regency. This study is a non-experimental descriptive study with a population of housewives in West Arso District. The samples taken were 98 respondents. The study was conducted in June 2022. The results of this study found that the highest characteristics of housewives in the Arso Barat District, Keerom Regency, came from the age group 36–45 years with 38 respondents (39%), the last education was high school (56%) and had a private job (41%). The level of knowledge of respondents about the cause of malaria was highest in the sufficient category as many as 45 respondents (46%). The highest level of knowledge about malaria symptoms was in the less category with 49 respondents (50%). The level of knowledge of respondents in the good category is about malaria prevention with 93 respondents (95%) and about malaria treatment with 82 respondents (84%). Almost all respondents have a positive attitude towards malaria as many as 97 respondents (99%). Conclusion: Housewives in Arso Barat district, Keerom district have a low level of knowledge about the causes of malaria and symptoms of malaria, while the level of knowledge about malaria prevention and treatment is in the good category. Respondents have a positive attitude towards malaria.
