Abstract
Ajeran plant (Bidens pilosa L.) is one of the plants that can be used for external or topical treatment. Ajeran leaves contain flavonoids and saponins which are efficacious as anti-inflammatory and accelerate wound healing. Emulgel is the development of a gel preparation which is an emulsion preparation, either oil in water or water in oil type which is dispersed in a gel base with the addition of a gel base. The combination of HPMC with carbopol was used to cover the lack of carbopol properties. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the combination of carbopol and HPMC as a gel base. This type of research is a laboratory experimental research to make emulgel preparations. This research was carried out in July 2022 and was carried out at the Phytochemical Laboratory and Pharmacy Laboratory, Department of Pharmacy, Health Polytechnic of the Ministry of Health, Jayapura. Emulgel test methods include organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, dispersion, adhesion, and thermodynamic stability tests. The results showed that the physical quality of the ajeran leaf extract emulgel for organoleptic F1–F5 was brown in color, the characteristic odor of ajeran leaf extract, and in liquid form. Homogeneity in F1–F5 shows homogeneity. The pH in F1–F5 shows pH 6. The dispersion in F1–F5 was 12.6 cm, 15.2 cm, 14.8 cm, 10.4 cm and 13.6 cm, respectively. Adhesion to F1–F5 was sequentially 2 seconds, 13 seconds, 3 seconds, 201 seconds, and 6 seconds, and the thermodynamic stability test on F1–F5 separated and was unstable. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the physical quality of the emulgel of ajeran leaf extract at F1–F5 in the organoleptic test, dispersion, and thermodynamic stability did not meet the requirements, while the homogeneity, pH, and adhesion test met the requirements.
