Abstract
White turmeric (Curcuma zedoaria R.) is one of the plants that can be used as traditional medicine because it contains various metabolites that have antimicrobial effectiveness. This study aims to determine the stability of the white turmeric emulsion characterization that has been made by the researcher. White turmeric emulsion is made using oleic acid as the oil phase, Cremophor RH as a surfactant, and Propylene glycol as a cosurfactant. However, white turmeric has a disadvantage, namely its very low solubility in water which has an impact on the inhibition of the absorption process so that the pharmacological effect is weak. Steps that can be taken to increase absorption are to reduce the particle size of white turmeric in the form of an emulsion. pH test, emulsification test and stability test carried out included phase separation, particle size, % transmittance by going through a series of tests consisting of centrifugation test, heat cycle test - chilled, freeze-thaw cycle test,. This research is an experimental study carried out at the Phytochemical and Pharmaceutical Preparation Technology laboratories, Pharmaceutical Department, Jayapura Ministry of Health Polytechnic in May - July 2022 with samples taken at Taja Lereh, Kab. Jayapura. The results of the stability studies carried out were that there was no phase separation in the centrifugation test, the hot-cold cycle test, and the freeze-thaw cycle test. The transmittance test results are classified as poor because the % transmittance value is not close to 100%. So after a series of stability tests were carried out, it was found that the white turmeric emulsion had good stability. White turmeric contains secondary metabolites, namely alkaloids and flavonoids. And on . The concentration of the extract that was most effective in inhibiting S. aureus was a concentration of 80% w/v.
