Abstract
Beluntas leaves (Pluchea indica L.) have antioxidant activity. This study aims to determine the effect of varying concentrations of surfactants and cosurfactants on the physical quality of auto-emulsion beluntas leaf extract (Pluchea indica L.). The preparation is prepared using oleic acid as the oil phase, Cremophor RH 40 as surfactant, and Propilenglikol as cosurfactant. However, beluntas leaves have difficult properties in water which have an impact on inhibiting the absorption process less so that the pharmacological effect is weak. A step that can be taken to increase absorption is to reduce the particle size of beluntas leaves in the form of auto-emulsion preparations. The study was conducted in July 2022. This research is an experimental research. Extraction was carried out by maceration then formulated as an autoemulsion preparation then carried out pH test, emulsification time test, and percent transmittance test, fiber thermodynamic stability test which included centrifugation test, heating-cooling cycle test, and freeze-thaw cycle test. The results of the pH test showed that the five formulas had a pH of 5 which was included in the required pH range, the emulsification time test was classified as good, and the transmittance test results were not good. The results of the stability study are classified as good in the centrifugation test, heating-cooling cycle test, and freeze-thaw cycle test. Conclusion: variations in surfactant and cosurfactant concentrations significantly influence the physical quality test of the auto-emulsified preparations of beluntas leaf extract (Pluchea indica L.).
