Abstract

Antibiotics are drugs used to treat bacterial infections. Prescribing antibiotics in pediatric patients often causes problems such as inappropriate dosage and duration of treatment. This study aims to determine the pattern of antibiotic prescribing in pediatric patients at the Arrio farma Merauke pharmacy. This type of research is a retrospective descriptive study conducted at Arrio Farma Pharmacy, Merauke Regency in November-December 2022 by taking a sample of 127 prescriptions and medical records of pediatric patients from doctors practicing at Arrio Farma Pharmacy. The results of the study from a total of 127 prescriptions and medical records found that based on gender, there were 73 male patients (57.5%) and 54 female patients (42.5%). Based on the age of the patient, the most children were aged 0-5 years as many as 50 patients (39.4%) and the lowest was aged 12-7 years as many as 34 patients (26.8%). Based on the patient's weight, the most children were 10-25 kg in 56 patients (44.1%) and the lowest was less than 10 kg in 16 patients (12.5%). The types of antibiotics prescribed were Cefadroxil (33.9%), Erythromycin (33.10%), Cefixim (21.5%), Amoxicillin (9.4%), Chloramphenicol (1.6%), and Cotrimoxazole (0,8%). The antibiotics prescribed were 70 Cephalosporins (55.1%), 42 Macrolides (33.1%) and other groups (11.8%). The most widely prescribed dose of antibiotics was Erythromycin 500 mg in 19 prescriptions (15.0%). The correct dosage of antibiotics was 118 prescriptions (93%) with the right dosage and 9 prescriptions with the wrong dosage (7%). The most frequent duration of antibiotics was 5 days for 72 prescriptions (56.7%). The most widely prescribed dosage form was syrup with a total of 62 recipes (48.8%). The most common type of disease was ARI as much as 84.2%. Conclusion: Prescribing antibiotics for pediatric patients at the Arrio Farma Pharmacy, Merauke Regency with the right dosage (93%) and the most common type of disease is ARI (84.2%).
