Abstract

Malaria is an infectious disease caused by the Plasmodium parasite. The working area of the Hamadi Public Health Center is one of the malaria endemic areas in the province of Papua. The knowledge and attitudes possessed by a person will determine his actions in efforts to prevent malaria. This study aims to determine the level of knowledge and attitudes in preventing malaria by patients at the Hamadi Public Health Center. This research is a descriptive research conducted at the Hamadi Health Center in May 2023 using an instrument in the form of a questionnaire containing 14 questions. The sample in this study were 96 patients who were taking medicine at the Hamadi Health Center pharmacy. The results of the study showed that the patient characteristics of the respondents at the Hamadi Health Center were highest from the age group of 26-35 years with 35 respondents (36.5%), with the highest gender being female with 57 respondents (59.4%), last high school education 59 respondents (61.5%), and 41 respondents (42.7%) have private jobs. There were 59 (61.5%) respondents who were experiencing malaria. The level of knowledge of respondents about malaria prevention in the good category was 39 respondents (40.6%) who were experiencing malaria and 35 respondents (36.5) who were not experiencing malaria. Almost all respondents had a positive attitude towards malaria, namely 57 respondents (59.4%) were experiencing malaria and 37 respondents (38.5) were not experiencing malaria. Conclusion: Hamadi health center patients have a good level of knowledge and a positive attitude towards malaria prevention.
