Abstract

Gotu kola (Centella asiatica L.) and mint (Mentha piperita L.) leaves are useful in the health sector, one of which is as an antibacterial against Streptococcus mutans. This study aims to determine the evaluation of the formulation of toothpaste gel from gotu kola leaf extract (Centella asiatica L.) with a combination of mint leaf extract (Mentha piperita L.) with variations in Carbomer base 1%, 1.5%, and 2%. This research was an experimental study conducted from May to June in the laboratory with samples of gotu kola and mint leaves obtained from Arso 8 and Sentani. The results of the organoleptic test for all formulas had criteria of dark green color, sweet taste, odorless, and soft texture. While the average pH for all formulas was 6, and the three formulas were homogen seen by macroscopic and microscopic, and the foam heights FI, FII, and FIII were 4cm, 4cm, and 3cm, respectively. Furthermore, for the dispersion test, the three formulas were 7cm, 6.5cm, and 6cm, respectively. From the results of the study, it can be concluded that all the gel toothpaste formulas of gotu kola leaf extract and mint leaf extract met the requirements for pH, high foam, homogenity, and spreadability tests. And visually it can be concluded that the third formula has the best base and appearance.
