Abstract
Self-medication or what is known as self-medication is an effort in self-medication using drugs, both modern, herbal, and traditional medicines to treat complaints and minor ailments that are often experienced by the community such as fever, aches, dizziness, coughs, runny nose, stomach ulcers, intestinal worms, diarrhea, skin diseases, and others. This study aims to describe the use of traditional medicines for self-medication in the community at RT 07 Koya Barat Jayapura based on age, gender, education, occupation, type of disease, type of plant, method of use, dosage form, method of processing, place of obtaining and reasons for use traditional medicine. This type of research is descriptive and was carried out in May–June 2023 at RT 07 Koya Barat, Jayapura City. The results obtained by the most age group were 17–25 years as many as 27 respondents (35%), the most gender was male as many as 40 respondents (52%), the most education was high school as many as 50 respondents (65%), the most jobs were IRT as many as 16 respondents (20.8%), the most common type of disease is coughing as many as 26 respondents (33.8%), the most types of bitter plants are as many as 18 respondents (23.3%), the method of use is mostly drunk by 46 respondents (59.7%), the most dosage forms were solutions as many as 47 respondents (61%), the most direct processing method was used as many as 43 respondents (55.9%), the place to get the most was in the yard of the house as many as 28 respondents (36.4%) and the reason for using the most was made of nature as many as 35 respondents (45.5%). So it can be concluded that the people of RT 07 Koya Barat use traditional medicine for self-medication for stone disease with the type of plant used, namely Lime.
